York bar’s Sunday roast ‘with a twist’ named among top 10 in Britain

One of Britain’s greatest meals, the Sunday roast comes into its own at this time of year.

This year, it has named venues from Cornwall to Edinburgh in its 20 Best Sunday Roasts in the UK – and one is at the heart of York.

In at number 10, the Impossible Restaurant & Wonderbar in St Helen’s Square is lauded for being a quirky venue which serves up “a Sunday roast with a twist”.

“There are three options to choose from if you’d like a regular roast dinner: beef, chicken and butternut squash for vegetarians and vegans,” EnjoyTravel writes.

“However, most people come to Impossible for one thing, and for one thing only: their Sunday roast fondue.”

That gives diners the chance to try a sharing board of roast meats, vegetables and Yorkshire puddings with a huge, steaming bowl of rich and thick gravy in the middle.

They add: “If this doesn’t fill you up, we don’t know what will!”
