York City Centre
Coney Street, Parliament Street & City Centre

Coney Street was established by the Romans and has continued to be a be an important part of York's city centre since. The name is said to mean King's Street. It was said to be the most important street in the city by the 14th century and runs alongside the River Ouse. Many of York's important buildings can also be found here including the Guildhall and Mansion House.
Many high street names have stores on Coney Street but unlike many high streest across the country architecture jostles between modern and historic.
Parliament Street is another location for major shops and is historically the site of the York's main market. Nowadays shops and restaurants sit next to what is efficievely an open square which regularly finds itself home to events and themed markets.
York City Centre is home to many independent traders, take a lookdown one of the many side streets and you're sure to find something unique.
Fossgate

Fossgate in York City Centre is known for its independent retail scene. You will find many of the city's independent retailers here. The street has a historic feel with shops, bars and cafes filling buildings of all shapes and sizes. Here you can eat lunch in a former cinema or find the entrance to York's historic Merchant Adventurers Hall.
Fossgate takes its name from the River Foss and the street has a unique charm which you won't want to miss.
Spark

Spark is, by York's standards, a recent development! Rather than being built from Viking leftovers, Spark houses new and independent businesses in a complex made of shipping containers.
Here you'll find food, drink, startup traders, art workshops and fitness classes.
In the winter the complex is covered whereas in summer the roof is removed, whatever time of year you'll find a vibrant energy and something totally unique within the city.
Coppergate Centre

The Coppergate Centre is an open air shopping centre which includes high street retailers like Fenwick and Primark as well as unique attractions such as the world famous Jorvik Viking Centre.
The centre is home to a Brolly Walk with an always altering collection of umbrellas above your head!
When work began to build the centre in the 1970s the remains of viking buildings were found and you can now find out more about these finds, and take a trip back in time at the Jorvik Viking Centre.
Other attractions include The Hole In Wand Wizard Golf and the Van Gough experience.
Shables Market & Shambles Food Court
In recent years York's Shambles Market has seen something of a boom as the Shambles food court brings in locals and visitors alike to dine on a range of food from various street food vendors.
You'll find Shambles Market between Parliament Street and Shambles and the market itself has fresh produce as well as an array of goods on sale from local traders.

Throughout the year York's Parliament Street hosts several annual markets. Each market is packed with aristan traders and independant retailer. You'll find unique gifts an amazing flavours from around the world.
Regular events include the York Food & Drink festival held each September and York's annual Christmas market and St Nicholas' Fair.
York Designer Outlet

Located outside York City Centre by the A64/A19 interchange, York Designer Outlet is home to over 100 retailers all offering huge discounts compared to the high street. The centre specialises in preimum and designer brands and has a large food court as well as a children's play area.
Throughout the year York Designer Outlet hosts plenty of themed events and activities to entertain the family while you enjoy some much needed retail therapy. The centre is fully under cover so you can grab a bargain whatever the weather.
For those arriving by car you'll find plenty of parking or if you prefer to use public transport York's Park and Ride service operates throughout the day.
Clifton Moor

One of the country's biggest out of town retail park, Clifton Moor Retail Park sits alongside the busy A1237. It's home to some large retailers including IKEA and Tesco with several food outlets available. As well as the big names in shopping you'll find bowling, cinema and an interactive indoor play area for children.
Vanguard Retail Park

Positioned between the York Community Stadium complex and Monks Cross Shopping Park, Vanguard is one of York's newest retail additions. You'll find Europe's biggest outdoor with Go Outdoors, a variety of food retails along with M&S and Next stores.
Monks Cross Shopping Park

Another of York's big retail parks, Monks Cross has a selection of big name retailers in a modern shopping environment along with places to eat and drink and plenty of free parking. Retailers include a large Primark store, The Works and Smyths Toys
