‘It’s about sharing our story’: Venues reveal why they love York Restaurant Week

It’s the second half of York Restaurant Week, with diners able to tuck into the special offers until Sunday (26 October).

And local restaurants have been talking to YorkMix about the difference it makes to them.

The current restaurant week (actually a fortnight) includes discounts and offers from 124 of York’s restaurants, cafes, and bars. You can find them all here.

Organised by the York BID (Business Improvement District), the initiative has generated a “phenomenal” public response and its role in highlighting York’s vibrant independent food scene.

These days York is known for its rich variety of global cuisines. Restaurant Week not only celebrates this diversity but also helps local businesses reach new audiences.

Charlotte, general manager at Enoteca by L’uva – a cosy independent Italian restaurant on Bridge Street – shared her thoughts.

“It really is a great opportunity for people who haven’t visited restaurants before to be able to try some new ones,” she said.

“We’re starting to get people make their Christmas bookings with us based on the fact they tried out our restaurant in October and enjoyed it, so York Restaurant Week really does help us grow.”

Yemen Heaven on Walmgate echoed this enthusiasm: “For us, York Restaurant Week is about more than special offers: it’s about sharing our story and welcoming people into the warmth of the hospitality in Yemen.

“We hope this week gives more people the opportunity to discover the richness of our cuisine and to connect with our family-run restaurant’s story.”

The event features set menus priced between £5 and £30 – meaning there is a chance for everyone to join in and explore York’s treasured cafés, restaurants and bars, without breaking the bank.

With previous editions generating nearly £400,000 in revenue for the city’s hospitality sector, this autumn’s restaurant week is expected to be yet another success.
