Think you know these Disney fairy tale princesses? Think again!
Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Pocahontas, are just some of the princesses taking to the stage to tell their own story in this witty and subversive musical comedy, that turns these well-known fairy tales upside down.
Disenchanted is at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre from Wednesday 22 to Saturday 25 October.
Described as a “laugh-out-loud musical”, Disenchanted takes the fairy-tale princesses we thought we knew and lets them set the record straight — with sass, sparkle, and songs that are as funny and upbeat as they are touching (and just a little bit naughty!).
Presented by Steve Coates Music Productions, the show is directed by Katie Melia with musical direction by Martin Lay. As well as directing, Katie is also starring as Snow White – a role reprisal from when Katie appeared in the UK premiere of the show nearly a decade ago.
“It’s an amazing show and it’s been very close to my heart for a long time, so when I got approached to see if I’d be interested in doing it again I lapped it up,” Katie told YorkMix Breakfast presenter Laura Castle.
“We’ve got the most incredible group of ladies, they’re so talented and are bringing their own style and flair to each of the princesses.
“Rehearsals have been such a joy. Because the show is so silly, it’s been a lot of fun – think pantomime meets modern musical!”
Get ready for a night of laughter, glitter, and girl power as Disenchanted returns to York – reminding us that ‘happily ever after’ might look a little different than we imagined…
Tickets start from £18 and are available via the Joseph Rowntree Theatre Website.
