A large stretch of the A64 was closed after a crash this morning (Monday).
National Highways say a van and a lorry collided. YorkMix understands that the van went into the back of the HGV which was parked in a lay-by, and that the van driver died at the scene.
The road was shut from about 4.30am.

It was originally shut between the A19 junction westbound and the A1036 junction eastbound.
North Yorkshire Police posted at 4.38am: “Please avoid the area if you can, and use alternative routes where possible while emergency services work at the scene.
“Otherwise, there are diversions in place so please follow these.”
The westbound carriageway then reopened. Now the road is open in both directions.
Earlier, National Highways had posted: “North Yorkshire Police, North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service and Yorkshire Ambulance Service are all responding to this incident with National Highways Traffic Officers providing support in the form of emergency traffic management.
“At 7am this morning the westbound carriageway re-opened.
“The eastbound closure was extended to the A1237 (Askham Bryan) to facilitate the strategic diversion route.”.
