Fire started deliberately in York suburb

Crews tackled a fire thought to have been started deliberately in a York suburb last night.

They were called to Telford Terrace, off Albemarle Road, at 7.21pm.

There are a number of allotments off Telford Terrace, and Acomb firefighters were called to a report of a fire that had been sighted in the open.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “On arrival this was found to be a fire containing mainly cardboard.

“The fire was extinguished using a bucket of water. This was believed to be started deliberately and details of the incident were passed to the police.”
