Woman rescued after driving into a pond near York

Emergency services were called out this afternoon (Wednesday) after a car left the road and went into a pond.

The incident happened on the A19 near Shipton at about 4.25pm.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews from Acomb and York responded to a report of a single vehicle road traffic collision in which the vehicle left the road and ended up in a pond.

“The female driver was trapped in the vehicle and had to be rescued by fire crews.”

Firefighters handed the woman over to the care of an ambulance crew.

The fire crews then secured the vehicle “to ensure it could easily be recovered and handed the incident over to the police”.
