Scale of Fishergate damage revealed as two York roads remain shut for water works

The York street remains closed after the pipe burst on Saturday caused a temporary flood.

Yorkshire Water engineers have begun the emergency repairs, with the road dug up and the pipeworks exposed.

No date has been given for when the work will be completed and the road reopened.

But the traffic closure notice on One Network says Fishergate could stay shut till 28 April.

Anyone travelling into York via Fulford Road is now diverted via Cemetery Road, which has its own roadworks with temporary traffic lights.

Meanwhile, the junction of James Street and Lawrence Street is still shut as work to repair that water mains burst continues.

One Network says it could stay shut till 25 April.
