Door 84 have launched a new campaign to raise vital funds for inclusive sports and movement-based sessions.
The youth centre on Lowther Street, York, has launched ‘Pedal for Purpose’ – with a special fundraising event taking place on Wednesday 22 October.
The event will involve a static bike in the main cafe space at Door 84 being ridden continuously through the day by a succession of willing volunteers – with the aim to collectively pedal 84 miles or more.
Door 84 is a York-based charity that delivers a range of services for children, young people, adults and families.
The funds raised by the Pedal for Purpose campaign will enable them to bring in organisations that specialise in delivering sports and movement-based sessions for the different sectors of the community – providing those who attend the youth clubs at Door 84 with the chance to try a new activity or have a go at a sport they love but didn’t have the opportunity to play.
George Arksey, youth manager at Door 84 said, “At Door 84, we know how much people value having a safe and welcoming space to enjoy fun, active sessions together.
“Whether it’s young people enjoying our weekly ‘Get Active’ play sessions, dance workshops or school holiday trips and residentials, or adults with additional needs coming along to our SPARKS discos and social activities, these opportunities make a real difference to people across York.
“What many don’t realise is that Door 84 is a registered charity, and we rely heavily on fundraising to keep these activities going. That’s why we’re so excited about our new fundraiser, ‘Pedal for Purpose’.
“It’s a fun way for the whole community to get involved, and we’re delighted that local businesses and organisations are already showing their support!”
