These cats need you! RSPCA has record numbers of pets waiting for homes

The RSPCA has record numbers of cats needing homes – including these pets in its York centre.

The number of cats being cared for in the charity’s 14 national centres has more than doubled from 800 in 2020 to around 1,700 this summer.

At RSPCA York, Harrogate & District Branch there are several cats in their care waiting for their forever homes right now.

Henry

Henry

Henry came into the branch via a vet after he needed some medical treatment. He has been a street cat for the last 13 years so it is about time he got a family of his own with a nice, warm and comfy home.

Animal centre manager Ruth McCabe said: “Henry is a friendly boy who is just a little overwhelmed at being in a rescue centre, he is adjusting well and now just needs his forever home to settle down and retire in.

“He will be a little nervous when first going to a new home so his new family will need to give him some time to settle and help him overcome his insecurities.

“We are sure in time he will love cuddling up on the sofa snoozing his days away without a care in the world. Life for a street cat is pretty tough so we are all looking forward to him finding his happy ending.”

Maze

Maze

Four-year-old Maze is a shy little cat who came to the York Animal Home with her five kittens after her previous owner was unable to keep them.

Ruth said: “Maze will need an understanding adopter who will give her the time she needs to settle in and learn to trust her family, she will need a family who will help her overcome her insecurities and show her life really is not that bad after all.

“Maze does spend most of her time hiding away from the world, only coming out when we have all gone home and it is quiet.

“Maze did a marvellous job rearing her kittens but it is now her turn to be the apple of someone’s eye. It is her turn to be looked after and loved unconditionally so we really hope we’re able to find her a forever home this Adoptober!”

Maze will need a nice quiet home with adopters who have a spare room she can have for as long as it takes for her to settle and trust her new family. Maze will need to be the only pet in an adult only home where she will be a permanent house cat.

Hatchi, Aubrey & Bailey

It’s hoped that a home can be found together for trio Hatchi, Aubrey & Bailey.

They came into the centre via a RSPCA Inspector and didn’t have a very good start to life. After some much needed TLC they are now ready to find their forever family.

“They can be very shy and aloof with people they do not know but when they do know you they are extremely loving, loyal and affectionate,” said Ruth.

“They are so entertaining with their quirky ways and antics and time spent with them is never boring. Aubrey, Bailey and Hatchi like a good rough and tumble play and will chase toys and each other around for ages.”

“They are very vocal, be it purring or meowing and they crave human affection when they know you and are just amazing cats. We would really love the boys to all go together as they do get on so well, it is a big ask but they really do love each other so much.

“Aubrey and Bailey are brothers and Hatchi is their step brother.”

The trio carry the virus Calicivirus, which sadly means they can not live with other cats as they are carriers of the virus. However, this is managed very well and they live a happy, comfortable life.

They will all need an adult only home where they are the only cats and also permanent house cats.
