A York tour has been named as one of the ‘top experiences’ in the country.
The Deathly Dark Tour of York has been recognised as one of the ‘top experiences’ in the UK in the TripAdvisor Best of the Best Awards 2025, placing at number 18 on that category.
The Deathly Dark Tours was founded during the first lockdown in 2020 and is a staple of the city’s spooky offerings.
It’s described by TripAdvisor to be an “engaging experience for all ages, including kids, making York’s darker side fun and memorable.” Recent reviews say that it’s an “absolute must of an experience” and “one of the best things” they’d done.
The Travellers’ Choice Awards showcase people’s favourite destinations, hotels, restaurants, things to do and more, based on the reviews left on Tripadvisor over the previous year – with ‘fewer than 1%’ achieving this milestone.
The Deathly Dark Tour of York not the only walking tour to be recognised in the Travellers’ Choice Awards – as the Wizard Walk of York has been named the number one best ‘family-friendly’ things to do in the world.
It has a perfect 5.0 out of five rating from more than 860 reviews. TripAdvisor says that “the family-friendly adventure puts fun over fright, blending education and entertainment to uncover the city’s history through captivating stories and up-close magic tricks.”
Two of York’s most iconic attractions – York Minster and the National Railway Museum – have also made the list for best ‘top attractions’ in the UK, at number 12 and 13 respectively.
The Station Hall at the National Railway Museum recently reopened following an £11 million refurb – with Princess Anne as the royal VIP guest for the occasion. The museum is also celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
There’s success out of the city too, with The Web Adventure Park being named as one of the best ‘amusement and water parks’ in the world. At number seven on the list it places higher than Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida and Hong Kong Disneyland.
TripAdvisor states that The Web Adventure Park has an “excellent selection of activities, friendly staff, and well-maintained facilities” and that it’s “a memorable spot for all ages.”
