YorkMix Hero Awards – Meet the finalists for the Parent/Guardian of the Year award

It’s time to champion more of our YorkMix Hero Awards finalists – and today you can meet our shortlist for the Parent/Guardian of the Year award.

We wanted to hear nominations for parents and guardians who have gone above and beyond over the past 18 months.

Meet the finalists…

Thelma Harker

One person who nominated Thelma said, “Since 2010 my great aunt has took me in when I was in foster care.

“She also puts anyone before herself.

“In March 2012 I got diabetes and it hasn’t been an easy ride for me.

“I don’t know what I could have done without her.”

Patricia Heald

Someone who nominated Patricia said, “My mum Patricia is always there for me.

“She is a great mum – will do anything for me and her grandkids.

“She will always go the extra mile.

“Always there for us in the best way she can be.”

Helen Wardell

One person who nominated Helen said, “My mum is one of a kind.

“She has worked through every single one of the lockdowns in a school as they stayed open for key worker children.

“She continuously worked even though she is at risk herself.”

Despite going through a very difficult time in the third lockdown, Helen still went to school with a smile on her face – and was there to help out with homework when she got home.
