As countless visitors would agree, a stay in York creates priceless memories.
However, the holiday let did seem a bit steep (even for the Bishy Road area) – priced at £17,915 a night!
That was the rent listed on holiday giant Airbnb for 2 Clementhorpe Maltings.
Being on Lower Darnborough Street, the ‘charming and unique’ two-bedroom townhouse is only a 14-minute walk from York Station and many of the sights.
It comes with 25 different amenities, including a washing machine, dishwasher and flat screen TV. Even so, £35K for a weekend does seem a bit much.
Especially as this didn’t include a cleaning fee of £30…
The entry was spotted by York councillor Ashley Mason. He told YorkMix: “Bishy Road has certainly changed a lot over the last 20 years, with so much more on offer than the video shop we went to at weekends…
“It’s amazing to see this, I know the development of the shopping parade has brought many benefits and improvements, but this really shows the Bishy Road influence!”
With the same property listed on another website for £260 a night, it turned out there was an error on Airbnb.
It is owned by holiday letting company Stays York, based on High Petergate. Amanda Bottomley, the business development executive, told YorkMix: “It would appear to be a system error and this should now have been rectified.
“The property is no longer on holiday let and hasn’t been since just before the first lockdown in March 2020. Bishy Road is indeed a hugely popular area for holiday lets – however, not quite at these levels!”
