Two people are in hospital with serious injuries after their car crashed into a tree after careering off a North Yorkshire road.
The A1041 between Selby and Camblesforth has now reopened, many hours after the collision happened.
The closure caused major traffic problems. Motorists stuck in the queues tried to take short cuts – including a coach that became stuck.
The location of the crash
The road was shut for several hours after the collision while the police investigation team examined the scene.
At around 10.20am today (Wednesday) a dark coloured Ford Focus travelling northbound left the road between the Black Dog pub and Barlow Road junction before colliding with a tree.
The two women inside, one in her 60s and the other in her 70s, were seriously injured.
Fire crews from Selby, road ambulances and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance went to the scene. Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the door of the car to free the women.
They were taken to hospital where they both remain.
Police would like to hear from anyone who was travelling along the A1041 this morning and either saw the Focus prior to the collision, witnessed the collision or have any dashcam footage.
