Real-time video gives people a cab’s eye view from a York train

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to drive a train, now’s your chance to find out.

LNER is launching a real-time video of a journey from York to Newcastle on YouTube today (Sunday, 20 April).

It will allow viewers to take a seat alongside the driver in an LNER Azuma train for a trip on the UK’s East Coast Main Line from York to Newcastle.

The video will include full sound and also:

  • Progress bar with station stop points
  • Distance travelled in miles
  • Speed in mph (approximation based on GPS recording)
  • Location (stations and landmarks)
  • Fun facts
  • Unit number, train photo, and recording date.

This journey was recorded from the north cab on a GoPro Hero 13 and driven by Alex.
