We’re ready to spill the tea on a new business coming to York soon.
The Tea Palace is to open a shop and café in the city centre.
Work is underway to transform what was Mr P’s Curious Tavern on Low Petergate into the new venue.
Mr P’s, a venture by chef-owner Andrew Pern – best known for the Star Inn at Harome and the Star Inn The City next to the river in York – closed last July after being hit by the pandemic lockdown.
Tea Palace describes itself as “a modern tea emporium that offers the widest selection of the finest quality teas and infusions available in the UK”.
Black, white and green teas are among 120 varieties available on its website.
Founded in 2005 and with an HQ in Barnsley, the Tea Palace also has a shop in London’s swanky Covent Garden.
But the York venue will be serving food and drink as well as selling the loose leaf tea and other products.
Marketing manager at the Tea Palace Daniel Ibbotson has put out a jobs call. On Facebook he wrote: “The new Tea Palace shop on Low Petergate are looking to recruit the following positions: Head Chef, Sous Chef, Waitresses, Shop Assistants and Baristas.
