An investigation has begun after a man ejected from York Station by police was hit by a vehicle.
The man was seriously hurt and now the British Transport Police have referred themselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
While the incident last night (Monday) was being investigated, witnesses said a zebra crossing at the station was cordoned off by police.
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Officers responded to reports at 7.10pm yesterday of a person causing a disturbance at York station.
“They were ejected from the station as a result. Following this incident, officers were alerted that this person had been hit by a vehicle outside of the station.
“Paramedics attended alongside North Yorkshire Police and the person has been taken to hospital.
“Their injuries are believed to be serious but not life-threatening.
“Officers from North Yorkshire Police are leading an investigation into the incident.
“We have voluntarily referred ourselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).”
North Yorkshire Police confirmed they had taken over the investigation.
Witnesses said it was an Uber car involved in the collision, but this has not been confirmed.
