A York wine bar has been named one of the best ‘date night’ spots in the world.
Looking for the perfect place to take your date? Look no further – as Pairings Wine Bar on Castlegate, York, has been named as one of the top ‘date night’ restaurants in the world.
It comes in at number 15 in that category of the TripAdvisor Best of the Best Awards 2025.
It places the restaurant in a list alongside venues from Spain, Brazil, Indonesia, Greece, New Zealand and Canada, and is one of only two United Kingdom locations.
The Travellers’ Choice Awards showcase people’s favourite destinations, hotels, restaurants, things to do and more, based on the reviews left on Tripadvisor over the previous year – with ‘fewer than 1%’ achieving this milestone.

Pairings Wine Bar has a 4.8 out of five rating from more than 1,700 reviews.
TripAdvisor states: “The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere and is a must-visit for anyone in York.
“Pairings Wine Bar is a gem that provides fabulous service, atmosphere and menu that everyone should experience.”
Pairings are known for serving fine wines, beer and cocktails alongside small plates and sharing boards packed full of local produce, from charcuterie, to cheese, to fish. It also offers bespoke wine tastings that can be pre-booked.
Recent comments from diners call it a “flawless experience” and that it’s an “amazing place if you like cheese and wine.” Another diner said that “the staff were excellent and very knowledgeable about the food and wine available.”
The independently owned venue was founded in 2015 by sisters Kelly and Kate. Pairings is set to move from 28 Castlegate to 18 Castlegate, after its landlord decided not to renew their lease.
