A new bakery opening in York will be making all your sweet dreams come true.
The Sweet Dreams Bakery, opening tomorrow (Saturday 15 June) on George Hudson street, will be serving up a whole host of tasty treats – from cupcakes and brownies to ice cream and freshly made sandwiches.
It’s owned and run by Mara Cioineag. The building was previously the Romanian convenience store La Māruca, also ran by Mara. It had been her hope to add a patisserie into the shop – and with this transformation she’s made her bakery dreams come true.
“Baking has always been my passion,” Mara told YorkMix. “I love sweets.”
The Sweet Dreams Bakery first started back in 2020, where Mara and her husband were running it from their home in Leeds.
“We had to stop after a year of doing that just because I got pregnant,” said Mara. “When we moved to York we were hoping we could bring it back.”
The transformation inside was a “family team effort” with Mara’s husband and her dad completing all the painting, wallpapering and installations.
“I was just the interior designer – I only came up with the decorations!”
The main product on offer at Sweet Dreams Bakery will be cupcakes. There will be 12 flavours of cupcakes every day.
“My favourite one is the Bubblegum cupcake,” said Mara.
There will also be brownies, cookies, ice cream, sandwiches, croissants, cinnamon buns, and coffee available. Everything will be made fresh every day, and the building has a kitchen downstairs to make everything in-house.
It will be a mostly takeaway venue, with a small area of seating.
“I feel like everyone loves a sweet treat, so I hope to attract everyone – well, everyone not on a diet!”
The bakery will also be offering custom cake and cupcake orders for a wide variety of events, including birthdays and weddings. Customers will be able to choose their decorations and messages for the cake orders.
