York shop raid update: High value watches stolen in smash and grab

Police have issued more details about the raid on a York jewellers at the weekend.

As we reported yesterday, Ogden of Harrogate on Minster Gates was hit by thieves early on Sunday.

A window had been smashed, and a witness told us that watches had been taken.

That has today been confirmed by North Yorkshire Police.

A spokesperson said: “Police were contacted at 6.10am Sunday with a report of a break in at Ogdens of Harrogate on Minster Gates in York.

“It’s believed that in the early hours of Sunday morning, a side window of the shop has been smashed and a number of high value watches taken.

“Officers are currently conducting enquiries to establish the circumstances around the break-in.

“Anyone who has any information which would assist the investigation, or anyone who saw or captured CCTV footage of anything suspicious in the area is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police.”
