York road and square to be closed for weeks due to sewer works

Major sewer works are to bring disruption to York city centre later this month.

Yorkshire Water will be carrying out a sewer repair on Kings Square and on Goodramgate, York, during September and October.

Kings Square will be closed to traffic between Monday 22 September and Monday 13 October.

Blue Badge Holders will have vehicular access to the city centre via the bollards on Blake Street and exit via Lendal only, organised by the City of York Council Highway Officers.

A Yorkshire Water spokesperson said: “We understand that these closures will be disruptive, but they are absolutely necessary in order for us to complete these repairs safely.

“We’ll be working quickly and doing everything we can to keep disruption to a minimum.

“Thank you to everyone in the area in advance for their patience and understanding.”

Two years ago, traders on Goodramgate said they saw a huge drop in their income due to roadworks to install York’s anti-terror bollards.
