Watch: The moment eggs were thrown at the King in York – and police pounce on suspect

These are the dramatic moments when a protester threw eggs at King Charles III and Camilla, Queen Consort, as they arrived in York

The royal couple had just exited their limousine and were greeting the Lord Mayor of York Cllr David Carr when it happened.

At least three eggs were thrown while a man booed from the station side of Micklegate.

Police quickly waded into the crowd as an unruffled King and Queen Consort walked through the Bar to be greeted by cheering crowds.

None of the eggs hit the royals, although one landed at the feet of the sovereign.

Soon afterwards Ben Fry of YorkMix Radio captured footage of a suspect in handcuffs being bundled into a van by police.

He shouted: “The King’s a paedophile and this is a fascist country.”
