Watch: Just like Ghostbusters! Spooky moment caught on film at York library

Who we gonna call? Well, it has to be the Ghostbusters after seeing this video.

York Explore has shared a very spooky piece of footage captured on CCTV at the library on Museum Street.

It shows an unattended library trolley in between two bookshelves.

And then, for no apparent reason, it rolls forward, coming to a stop at the end of a shelving unit.

Then a book shoots off a shelf and onto the floor.

The library said on Twitter/X: “What a start to Saturday! We spotted this very strange activity on CCTV and we have no rational explanation.

“If anyone has any insights into what this bizarre footage shows, we’re all ears!”

It is very reminiscent of a scene from the 1984 blockbuster movie Ghostbusters. This is set in the New York Public Library, where the intrepid trio encounter an apparition of a librarian – who then turns nasty – see below:

Eerily, the York footage coincides with the start of Ghosts In The Gardens – the trail of 39 ghostly figures around the city which includes some on the Library Lawn outside York Explore.

And it comes nine days after footage of a ‘ghost bike‘ tweeted by Shambles Market went viral.

We asked both Shambles Market and the Make It York digital team a few follow up questions about that one – but never got a reply. Spooky!
