Watch: Battle stations! Radio presenters go head to head in cook-off at York Food Festival

It was the battle of the radio stations – conducted not with mikes and headphones, but whisks and blue cheese!

BBC Radio York and YorkMix Radio went head-to-head in a special cook-off at the York Food & Drink Festival.

Radio York presenter Sarah Urwin and Tim Lichfield, afternoon presenter on YorkMix Radio, took part in the challenge at the demo tent in St Sampson’s Square.

Marc Williams, director at the Grand Cookery School in York, was the task setter and the judge.

He challenged the pair to make a twice-baked soufflé – a dish met with groans from the competitors, who were hoping for something a little easier.

Before they began, host Ben Fry, presenter of the breakfast show on YorkMix Radio, asked Sarah what she thought of the challenge. “I walked in and thought – what is that?

“I’ve never even eaten a soufflé in my life.”

Asked about her signature dish, she said: “I make a very good omelette.”

Then the fun began. Marc demonstrated the recipe himself, whisking together the ingredients of the savoury soufflé – a traditional dish from classic French cooking.

Then it was the radio stars’ turn – and it was a very close run thing, with Marc awarding the winner by the margin of a single point.

You can see how they got on in our video.
