This is how Coney Street’s new restaurant will look

A long-empty restaurant on Coney Street in York is set to get a striking new look.

YorkMix revealed last month that Rosa’s Thai was planning to open a branch on the street.

It would take over the unit next door the Mansion House formerly occupied by Joe’s Kitchen.

And it would enjoy quite the makeover, with a burgundy fascia and gold lettering.

In a planning application, documents state: “The exterior proposals aim to improve the appearance of the shopfront through redecorating the upper facade in a colour to match existing and redecorating the modern traditional style shopfront to suit the branding of the new commercial tenant.”

Changes are planned inside: “The scheme proposes to demolish a modern timber glazed screen within the entrance to open up views of the restaurant from the shopfront.

“This is a modern intervention and will have no impact on the historic fabric.”

As we reported Rosa’s Thai Café describes itself as “is the home of modern Thai food”. It wants to open daily from 11am-11.30pm, and has applied for an alcohol licence till 11pm.

The all-day menu includes pad Thai noodles, green curry and a selection of stir fries.

On the drinks menu, you can try Rosa’s Thai PA beer, Thai whisky, and cocktails including a strawberry and Thai basil mojito called Bangkok Night Out.

Helmsley Group purchased several units including the one housing the vacant Joe’s Kitchen in May.

The four-storey building, built in 1960, has 4,782 sq ft of food space.
