Supermarket theft: Two arrested following police chase across muddy fields

Police have arrested two men after a chase by car and on foot over muddy fields.

It happened on Tuesday (16 January) after officers received a report of an alleged shop theft at Tesco, Northallerton.

Two men left in a vehicle parked nearby.

Police stopped the vehicle on the A168 towards Thirsk.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “The driver was detained at the scene whilst the passenger made off into the fields.

“Further officers were deployed into the area including the dog section. This resulted after a muddy search of the fields by our dog unit the passenger was detained.

“After a search of the vehicle several bottles of champagne and washing powder was located within the vehicle.”

Both men were arrested and taken into our custody. The vehicle was seized for using in crime.
