Here’s some cheering post-Christmas news for chicken lovers.
Plans are afoot to build a new KFC restaurant and drive-thru in York.
The restaurant would be based in the car park at Asda in Monks Cross, in the space behind the petrol station.

It will seat up to 54 diners, and have a 70m-long drive-thru lane which can hold around 12 cars.
“The restaurant will offer customers the choice of eating within the restaurant or ‘take away’ from either the counter or from the drive-thru lane,” planning documents state.
“The restaurant will have a delivery collection point for the use of delivery aggregators (eg Just Eat, Uber Eats and Deliveroo).”
The KFC would operate 24-hours a day, and it would create 20 full time and 20 part time jobs.
Building the restaurant would lead to a loss of 37 parking spaces for Asda shoppers.
Car parking for both shoppers and diners and takeaway will be shared across the car park.
“All potential queuing can be accommodated within the site, minimising any impact on the retained Asda car parking facilities and the public highway,” says a traffic report.
There will be cycle parking for up to ten bikes.
It would be the third KFC in York – there are existing restaurants on Blossom Street and at Clifton Moor.
