The Mayor of York and North Yorkshire paid tribute to Angela Rayner after she resigned from the government today.
Ms Rayner has quit as Deputy Prime Minister, Housing Secretary and deputy Labour leader after an investigation found she had breached the ministerial code when she did not pay enough stamp duty on a seaside home.
She admitted she had underpaid stamp duty on the flat, and referred herself to Sir Laurie Magnus, the independent ethics adviser.
He said Ms Rayner failed to “heed the caution” contained within legal advice she received when buying an £800,000 property in Hove.
Her resignation led Prime Minster Sir Keir Starmer to launch a major reshuffle of his team.
Mayor of York and North Yorkshire David Skaith issued a heartfelt statement after Ms Rayner quit.

Mr Skaith said: “Angela Rayner has been fundamental in delivering the groundwork for changing Britain and championing local communities.
“Her time as Deputy Prime Minister has put new affordable homes, devolution, community
empowerment, and enhancing worker’s rights, at the heart of government.
“These commitments are ones I know communities across York and North Yorkshire
are passionate about. I’m incredibly grateful for her support to me personally and as Mayor.”
