Man falls into River Ouse after boat hits bridge

A man has been rescued from the river in York after his boat hit a bridge this afternoon (Monday).

Fire crews were initially called out at 12.07pm after the boat owner became stranded dangerously as the River Ouse levels rose.

York firefighters helped relocate the boat to a safer location.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “During the process of relocating the boat, the boat collided with a bridge resulting in one male falling into the river.

“The male was rescued from the river by the crew on the fire service boat and was checked over by ambulance crews.

“The male did not suffer any injuries and did not attend hospital.”

York Rescue Boat were also called to help with the incident.
