Major 999 response to incident on the York riverside – Man arrested

A man was arrested tonight after emergency services and the York Rescue Boat were called to an incident by the river.

Police, ambulances, the fire service, a negotiator and the rescue boat were called to the Ouse close to the RSPCA animal home on Landing Lane in York.

A man was threatening to enter the water.

Also called in was the Yorkshire Ambulance Service Hazardous Area Response Team (HART).

After a protracted period of negotiations, YorkMix understands that the police removed the man safely from the scene.

Although the incident did not affect the wider community, it was a significant 999 response which began in the late afternoon today (Tuesday).
