There’s been a lot of debate about the cost of parking in York city centre recently.
City of York Council’s policy of increasing car park charges to reduce traffic has led some drivers to condemn the prices as “outrageous“.
One alternative is to find your own private parking plot in York – but that’s not cheap either.
A single garage off Walmgate has just been put up for sale – for £45,000.
The garage is in Malt Shovel Court, within a gated community on private land.

For your £45K, you get a 999-year lease from 2015.
Then there’s an additional £500 per year (variable) for maintenance costs like road painting, renovations and landscaping.

It’s not the first five-figure parking plot in York. Last year, a private parking bay in Bootham Row car park went up for sale for £20,000.
