Huge fire near York – Residents warned to keep their windows closed

Firefighters are tackling a major blaze near York today (Tuesday).

They were called to Elvington Industrial Estate at 4.44am.

Crews from York, Acomb and Tadcaster were sent to the incident and are still battling the flames.

North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service posted on X: “Fire at Elvington Industrial Estate York.

“Residents in local area advised to keep all doors and windows closed due to smoke from fire.”

A building measuring 15 x 60 metres was well alight when firefighters arrived.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said this morning: “Crews requested further assistance at this incident.

“At this time there are eight fire appliances, an aerial ladder platform and a water bowser in attendance with a high volume pump also on route.
