Hedge in Acomb caught fire after resident used petrol to ignite fire in a brazier

Fire crews were called to a hedge fire at a domestic property on Viking Road in Acomb.

It happened around 8:30 last night (Saturday). Acomb and York responded to the hedge fire which measured 10 x 2 metres.

The owner of the property had used petroleum to ignite the fire inside a brazier, which then accidentally caught fire to the hedge and also damaged the windows to their property.

Two hose reel jets were used to extinguish the fire and a thermal imaging camera was used to check for further hotspots whilst damping down.

Advice was given to the homeowner
