Pedestrian seriously injured in Tadcaster collision – Driver arrested

A pedestrian has been seriously injured after being hit by a car in Tadcaster.

It happened at 2.45pm on Saturday (7 January).

A blue Kia Venga car which was turning right from Commercial Street onto Mill Lane collided with a man aged in his late 60s who was walking across the road.

The pedestrian was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

The driver of the car, a 37-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of drink and drug driving. He has been released under investigation while police continue with their inquiries.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “The stretch of road was closed for around three hours while officers investigated the scene.

“We thank the members of the public for their patience and understanding during this time.”
