Driver arrested after high speed police chase in Selby

A high speed police chase ended with a driver arrested in Selby early today (Tuesday).

A Fiat 500 on Gowthorpe sped off after being spotted by a traffic patrol officer at about 12.50am.

The pursuit began, with police bringing in more vehicles, until the Fiat was marshalled back to Gowthorpe.

There, a stinger device was put across the road, shredding the car’s tyres.

The driver, aged 49, ran off but was found with the help of a police dog.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “He was taken into custody for questioning in relation to suspected driving offences including failing to stop for the police.

“He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.”
