Some North Yorkshire households have been told not to drink their tap water today.
Yorkshire Water says there’s a problem in the area covered by the HG3 2 postcode in Harrogate. That covers areas including Menwith Hill and Birstwith.
“Testing shows the water supply does not meet our usual standards and Do Not Drink advice should be followed,” the company says.
It adds: “Some properties in this area have been advised to boil their water before use.
“Around 30 properties have also been advised not to drink from their water supply at the moment. Our teams are working to hard to resolve this as quickly as possible.”
For the properties affected, Yorkshire Water issues the following advice:
- Do not drink tap water
- Do not cook or prepare foods with tap water
- Do not use tap water for cleaning teeth
- Do not let your pets drink tap water
- Boiling will not purify the water
- Tap water can be used for washing and bathing, toilet flushing and for washing dishes and clothes.
