A spokesperson for the York store said: “Yes we are moving, after a long 16 years. The demographic of Foss Island retail park has changed.

“We’ll be relocating to a different unit, on Layerthorpe – the old gym next to Asda.

“Our new store will be a new concept and experience for our customers.”

In the meantime, a sale has begun.

A post on Facebook reads: “We’re relocating – and everything must go!

“Don’t miss your chance to grab ex-display deals on stunning kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, and living furniture.

“Premium quality, incredible prices – available now at our current showroom.”

The owner of the soon-to-be-vacated unit on Foss Islands Retail Park, Columbia Threadneedle, has submitted a planning application to confirm that the mezzanine floor in the building is lawful.

This is in preparation to market the unit to new tenants. A planning statement says that “Kutchenhaus will be vacating the unit following the termination of their lease in
September 2025 or by earlier agreement”.
