A city centre bakery is to get a new frontage and interior if plans are approved.
Thomas the Baker’s shop on Market Street in York is applying for permission to make some changes.
The existing entrance would be replaced with asymmetric split doors “to allow easier access and temperature control during the different seasons”, planning documents say.
“The doors would also be brought forward to the front elevation of the shop front to deter anti-social behaviour as the current layout gives a recess off the street and regularly is used as a toilet.”
The inside of the shop would be refitted with a preparation area at the rear and a servery counter nearer the front.
A doorway would be reinstated on the right of the shop front. From here, a reinstated staircase would allow street access to the upper floors, currently used for storage and staff use.
Thomas the Baker is housed in a Victorian building that is Grade II listed.
A repainted fascia and new signs would complete the changes.
