A hot weather alert has been issued for York and North Yorkshire this weekend.
As temperatures climb, the UK Health Security Agency has issued a yellow heat health alert for the region.
It runs until 9am on Monday.
Temperatures are set to reach 25ºC on Saturday and Sunday and 26ºC on Monday.
According to the agency, a yellow heat alert means: “Significant impacts are possible across the health and social care sector due to the high temperatures, including: observed increase in mortality across the population likely, particularly in the 65+ age group or those with health conditions, but impacts may also be seen in younger age groups.”
Internal temperatures in hospitals and care homes may “exceed recommended threshold for clinical risk assessment”.
Further south they have it hotter, and an amber heat-health warning. They may also experience thunderstorms, but there is no significant rain in the York forecast.
Oliver Clayden, from the Met Office, said: “This is going to be the warmest weekend of the year, which is to be expected as we go into summer.”
