A yellow weather warning for heavy rain has been issued by the Met Office.
It runs from 5pm today (Monday, 1 January) to 9pm tomorrow (Tuesday, 2 January).
The warning includes York, Tadcaster and Selby, as well as much of East Yorkshire including Pocklington.
The Met Office says: “Heavy rain falling on saturated ground is likely to cause some travel disruption.”
It adds:
- Flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible
- Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer
- Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer.
It comes as York still has three flood warnings in place. They are:
- River Ouse at Naburn Lock
- River Ouse at York – riverside properties
- River Ouse at York – St George’s Field and Queen’s Staith.
By 12.15pm today, the River Ouse at the Viking Recorder had fallen to 3.92m and is predicted to drop further in the next 24 hours.
That’s down from its recent peak of 4.33m on Saturday (30 December). The top of the normal range is 1.9m.
The Environment Agency says: “Further rainfall is forecast over the coming days. We are closely monitoring the situation.”
Rowntree Park and its car park are still closed, as are the Esplanade and St George’s Field car parks.
The rest of York is open for business as usual.
