Two North Yorkshire restaurants have been recognised for prestigious national awards.
Melton’s Restaurant on Scarcroft Road, York, and The Homestead Kitchen in Goathland, were awarded 3 AA Rosettes at the AA Hospitality Awards 2025.
Hosted by TV presenter Vernon Kay, the 2025 event was held at Grosvenor House in London on Monday 22 September.

The awards aim to recognise the best chefs, restaurants and hotels in the UK.
Melton’s Restaurant was opened by chef Michael Hjort and wife Lucy in 1990. Michael is also the owner of Walmgate Ale House and The Chopping Block, and the director of the York Food and Drink Festival which is currently running on Parliament Street.
The kitchen at Melton’s is now lead by head chef Calvin Mille.
The cosy bistro-style restaurant us known for its modern British cuisine, with dishes including delights like sweet Orkney scallop, garden pea and Iberico ham tartlet, a trio of Yorkshire lamb, and raspberry souffle.
The inspector commented that Melton’s is a “neighbourhood favourite with high quality cooking.”
The Homestead Kitchen is a family-run restaurant in the North Yorkshire moorland village of Goathland, near Whitby.
It’s rustic-chic farmhouse decor is a relaxed setting to enjoy the restaurant’s tastes of the region, including dishes such as tartare of wild North York moors roe deer, North Sea cod poached in brown butter with Whitby lobster sauce, and hot chocolate tart, black cherry sauce and garden meadowsweet ice cream.
The inspector commented that it’s “a little hidden gem with an emphasis on regional specialties.”
