Thunderstorm warning for York and North Yorkshire as hot spell peaks on Monday

The Met Office has warned that thunderstorms are on their way.

It has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms that covers much of northern England, including York and most of North Yorkshire.

The warning runs from 2am to 1pm tomorrow (Monday, 12 August).

The Met Office says: “Thunderstorms may cause some disruption and damage to infrastructure during Monday.”

Storms could lead to flash flooding, and disruption on the roads and public transport.

“There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost,” the warning states.

It comes as the current hot spell is set to peak tomorrow, with highs of 28°C in York. The top temperatures for the rest of the week will vary from 24°C (Tuesday) to 19°C (Friday and Saturday).
