The YorkMix Family Raceday is back this Sunday! Here’s everything you need to know about all the family fun and racing entertainment.

YorkMix have once again teamed up with York Racecourse to put on a day of sport and fun for all ages.

The event will see a seven-race card with over £250,000 in prize money, a free-to-all Entertainment Marquee, and appearances from not one, but two much-loved children’s TV characters.

The YorkMix Family Raceday will take place on Sunday 7 September. Gates open from 11:15am, with the first race at 1:45pm. Take a look at all the details below.

Chase from Paw Patrol

The special guests this year are children’s TV characters, Chase and Marshall from Paw Patrol, who will be making exciting appearances throughout the afternoon.

Racegoers can also meet Remy, York’s retired racehorse ambassador.

A range of activities will also be taking place in the YorkMix Entertainment Marquee, including giant inflatables, diggerland, a children’s zoo, zorb football, face painting, virtual horse-riding, try on jockey silks, and a colouring competition.

Children under the age of 18 are admitted free, and must be accompanied by an adult.

For the YorkMix Family Raceday the Grandstand & Paddock Enclosure is combined with the Clocktower Enclosure, at a fixed price.

The headline race is the Sky Bet Starman Garrowby Stakes, worth £70,000.

This year, York Racecourse are again working with Racing Welfare, the charity behind the Malton Open Day, taking place on the morning of the raceday.

Visitors can go behind the scenes at Malton’s racing yards before heading to York Racecourse in the afternoon. Combined tickets for both events are available here.

There are plenty of places to get food and drink from the different areas in York Racecourse, with traditional restaurants, contemporary bistros, and mobile food court.

Picnics are welcome in the Clocktower Enclosure, however glass and BBQs are not allowed.

York Racecourse Hospitality can cater for vegetarian, vegan, soya free, Coeliac food (gluten free) and wheat free.

Parking and travel

Parking

There is a plentiful supply of free car parking on racedays.

Shuttle Bus

The 197 Shuttle Bus service links York Railway Station to the Racecourse.

From York Station
The shuttle buses operate from Stand RJ opposite the Railway Station entrance between 11am and 1.00pm.

From the Racecourse
The shuttle buses return to the Railway Station from Campleshon Road, next to the Racecourse entrance, from 4pm onwards.

Dress code

For the YorkMix Family Raceday the County Stand dress code is relaxed, with smart casual being the advice. Gentlemen are not required to wear jacket, collar and tie.
