Storm Babet: Passengers crowd York Station as cancellations pile up

York Station is crowded with passengers tonight as the number of cancelled and delayed services mount up.

Many East Coast Main Line services both northbound and southbound are delayed by several hours.

Others, like the 6.02pm from York to London Kings Cross, have been cancelled altogether.

LNER says: “Severe weather is causing major disruption to train services. Many rail routes are suspended. Please do NOT travel today.”

One passenger at York Station said there was an air of frustrated calm as people scanned the noticeboards for services still running.

Another told YorkMix that there were no trains running to London at 5pm.

Storm Babet is expected to mean travel is disrupted tomorrow too (Saturday, 21 October).

National Rail urged people to check before they travel: updates are here.
