They will also be offering free security marking on bikes

Attending the event will be:

  • The York and North Yorkshire Road Safety Partnership
  • York Minster Police
  • North Yorkshire Police Recruitment
  • The Yorkshire Air Ambulance
  • North Yorkshire Police Dog section
  • York Cycle Campaign
  • York Bid and Rangers
  • British Transport Police
  • York Rescue Boat, and various departments from the police service.

The event is organised by the new Inspector for York city centre, Jen Stockwell. Visitors will be able to speak with her about any concerns they have about crime and policing in the city.

She told YorkMix:  “The city centre in York is busy, with many people choosing to use a bike to get from A to B. We are working hard to combat cycle theft in the city through events, education and catching offenders in the act.

“This event outside York Minster will showcase various ways on how bike owners can deter thieves away from their pride and joy.

It will also promote the Highway Code as well as considerate safe driving.

“As the new Neighbourhood Inspector for York, I’m looking forward to using the event to engage with local people and listening to any concerns that they have.”
