A new peak in the current York floods was reached this afternoon (Wednesday).
The heavy rainfall during Storm Henk has seen the already very swollen River Ouse rise again.
It peaked at 4.39m at 4.45pm, which is higher than the previous peak of the current flood which was 4.33m. The top of the normal range is 1.9m.
That has led to water flowing across a main York road at both ends.
Skeldergate has been closed at its Bishopgate Street end for several days.
It remains open at the Micklegate end, although water is flowing from Queen’s Staith onto the road – and is bubbling up through the drains too.
There remain six flood warnings in place for York and more than 30 for North Yorkshire.
In Stutton, Tadcaster, a driver got stuck in floodwater at around 2pm. Fire service control gave the driver advice while the water levels rose, then a fire crew were able to help them to dry land.

The water is at least a foot deep in places.
More light rain is forecast for tomorrow, before a drier spell is predicted.
Water levels are expected to start falling in York over the next couple of days.
