Flood alerts issued for York and North Yorkshire – but the hosepipe ban remains

Flood alerts have been issued across North Yorkshire after heavy rain.

A flood alert means that flooding is possible.

There is also one flood warning which is the next level up. That’s at Bolton Bridge, west of Harrogate on the Wharfe.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain, until 6am (Sunday 21 September) with the potential for flooding and transport disruption as up to 80mm of rainfall is expected in some areas.

The warning covers large parts of northern England and Wales.

Despite the flood alerts, the hosepipe ban imposed by Yorkshire Water remains in place.

The company said on Tuesday: “While the rain is welcome, hosepipe restrictions remain in place and will continue until reservoirs have recovered over the autumn and into winter.

“Yorkshire Water will continue to review resource levels and remove the restrictions once the reservoirs have recovered.”

Reservoirs at that time were at 30.8%, but that will increase after the latest heavy rain.
