A North Yorkshire restaurant has been awarded the coveted AA Five Star Restaurant with Rooms Gold Award – just one month after opening the doors to their new location.
Pignut & The Hare is the newly relaunched restaurant with rooms in Scawton, North Yorkshire.
As well as achieving the prestigious award, the team also received a reconfirmation of their Three AA Rosettes and the AA Breakfast Award.
The husband-and-wife team behind Pignut & The Hare, Tom and Laurissa Heywood, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to receive the AA Five Star Gold Award and the reconfirmation of our Three Rosettes and Breakfast Award, especially so soon after reopening in our new home here in Scawton.

The inspector’s report praised the restaurant’s style, service, food, and hospitality across every aspect of the guest experience, and highlighted the team’s genuine hospitality, beautifully styled interiors, meticulous housekeeping, and above all, the kitchen’s ‘memorable moments’ across both dinner and breakfast service.
Notable dishes during inspection included Lindisfarne oyster with wild garlic, Castle Howard lamb with mint, and Duncombe Park venison with rich black pudding and plum gel.
The award of Five Star Gold places Pignut & The Hare amongst the most highly rated restaurants with rooms in the country. The Gold Star is the AA’s supreme accolade, reserved for establishments offering exceptional levels of quality, hospitality, and service.
