Pictures: York racegoers bask in sunshine at socially distanced meeting

It was a day of fine sport, fancy outfits, and socially-distanced spectating at York races.

The first day of the June weekend yesterday (Friday) was blessed with good weather and plenty of fine action on the turf.

Numbers of racegoers were heavily restricted. People could only book tickets in the stand as the picnic area remains closed.

Racing returns today (Saturday) in even better weather. But if you haven’t got a ticket, you’re out of luck – it has sold out and there are no walk-ins on the day.

This meeting also marks the 50th anniversary of the Macmillan Cancer Support fundraising at the racecourse.

The biggest charity meeting in Britain, it has now raised over £8 million for this very good cause.
