There’s been major disruption on the railways this afternoon (Saturday).
Emergency services were dealing with an incident in the Thirsk area from about midday.
National Rail said: “The emergency services are dealing with an incident between Darlington and York.
To allow them to safely access the railway and carry out their work, all lines running between these stations are closed.
“Trains may be cancelled, severely delayed by up to 90 minutes or revised. Major disruption is expected until 4pm.”
LNER said: “We are experiencing disruption to train services between Darlington and York due to a person being hit by a train.
“Train services may be delayed, altered or cancelled on short notice.”
Rail replacement buses were in service from York Station.
The lines have now reopened. National Rail said: “Whilst service recovers, trains may still be delayed by up to 10 minutes, revised or cancelled.
“Disruption is expected until 6.30pm.”
The services disrupted are:
- CrossCountry between Aberdeen / Dundee / Edinburgh / Glasgow Central and Cheltenham Spa, and also between Newcastle and Birmingham New Street / Reading
- LNER between Inverness / Aberdeen / Edinburgh and London Kings Cross
- Lumo between Edinburgh and London Kings Cross
- TransPennine Express between Newcastle and Liverpool Lime Street.
